The Mountains That Move Me: From the Appalachians to the Alps
This study explores mountains as a souce of grounding, stability, and strength. The stability of the mountains can be contrasted with the playful movement of line and expressive color present in each piece. The majority of the paintings have been inspired by photos taken in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and in the Swiss Alps.
The paintings are a mix of oil and acrylic paintings, with some paitings even combining the two techniques. The initial drawings for the linocut prints are also loosely based on photographs taken in these two locations. In some cases the linocut plate was used on watercolor paper and watercolor was subsequently added to the print.
